Tall, up to 2.4 metres, back of border herbaceous perennial producing upright stems clothed in large simple shaped leaves and, in late summer / early autumn, terminating in racemes of white flowers. As these flowers turn into berries, the stems holding them turn to shades of deep pink and berries age to black.

Very striking and always attracts comments and questions. Will grow in sun or shade shade but needs a retentive, rich to do well soil in the sun. All parts are toxic

Phytolacca americana
