Talks & WorkshopsWe will be holding a series of talks & workshops at the nursery this year in an effort to inspire & inform our customers. The talks will cost £5 each and are to be held on Saturday mornings from 10.30 to approx midday. Numbers are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Choose from the following; SHADY CHARACTERS 7th April Everyone has a shady corner somewhere in their garden. In this lecture we shed some light (groan!) on some star plants for creating interest in difficult, often dry, shady conditions USING COLOUR IN THE GARDEN 12th May Colour has the power to soothe or refresh, stimulate or even shock our senses. Colour creates mood in the garden. We take a look at colour themes, contrasts and harmonies and how to apply them to our borders successfully. WHAT THE BOOKS NEVER EXPLAIN Part 1 9th June Text books are great at telling us whether a particular plant likes sun or shade, what height it grows and how to propagate it. What they don't say & what our customers really want, and need, to know is how and when to cut it down, dead head it, stake it, lift & divide it, etc, etc, etc! HIGH & DRY 11th August In view of climate change & hose pipe bans, we take a look at those plants that, not only look good, but have very obligingly spent millennia adapting to dry climates, making them drought tolerant. We will also discuss measures for conserving water in the garden. AUTUMN COLOUR 8th September Often overlooked, the autumn herbaceous border can & should be just as colourful and interesting as it is in the summer. We take a look at late flowering perennials and also grasses, which come into their own at this time of year, and how to combine them with dramatic effect. WHAT THE BOOKS NEVER EXPLAIN Part II October 13th (See June for part 1) Part II will deal with putting the border to bed for the year, which plants to cut down, which to leave, mulching, lifting and splitting clump forming plants and absolutely everything else you need to know!
